Cute Koala Birthday Greeting Card

Hello there,

August is a busy birthday card making month for me. I made this Koala card for one of my best friends. I thought the koala with the baby on the back suited very well as she recently had a baby boy, and the koala on the ground eating can be her other half! I can already say now if I was more talented (or more of a dare devil!) I would have put some rosy cheeks and eye lashes on the koala mum but as I didn’t do the best job with blending the background I thought I better stop before I mess the whole thing! 🙂

Anyway, I found the cuddly koala stamp set online and had to get them for card making and scrapbooking. I’m using promarkers to colour with as they are good quality alcohol markers and they are very affordable compared to other brands on the marked. For a beginner like me they are great for testing the waters with.
I find promarkers blend very well and all you need is good quality paper so you avoid the colours “bleeding” on the paper. I find paper from Stampin’ Up! is high quality paper which is also thick and suitable for cards. I always do test-colouring by stamping the images I want on to cheaper colouring paper for alcohol markers first, to find out which colours I like to use. It helps me practising but this paper is also cheaper, also much thinner and not suitable for cardmaking.

After colouring the koalas I use scissors to cut them out with. I stamp the tree where I want it on my background, then used the mini cloud stencil to make clouds with. It’s very easy and went well! I didn’t bother masking tree off. I did mask off the sky and added green on the ground, then masked off the ground and finished the blue sky all the way down, and this is where I need to practise more!
I simply coloured in the tree after adding the background. I thought it would work as I was colouring the tree with darker colours and the alcohol won’t blend with distress inks.

I added the koalas with dimensional stickers and added some white accent to nose and ears with a gel pen. I carefully cut a small pocket to put the small branch in the sitting down koalas arms. I added glossy accent to the leaves to make them more interesting.

I embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on to black cardstock. I just love the sentiment, it’s very cute! I made it into a little banner and tied on a bow. On the inside of the card I stamped happy birthday.

I loved making this card and I have more koalas ready for more cards and will be continuing practising blending distress inks and making clouds like there is no tomorrow!

Thanks, and have a lovely day 🙂
